My dog back then was a Black Lab/Great
Dane mix named Sheeba. She loved to go offroading and be able
to get out and stretch those long legs!
Some roads were overtaken by the landscape.
Sheeba on a savannah
<<<Savannah:a
tropical or subtropical grassland containing scattered trees and
drought-resistant undergrowth.>>>
There were some beautiful spots along some of
the canals and we enjoyed sitting quietly, listening to the birds
and the sound of the wind in the trees.
Then we would load up and drive around for a
while and find another beautiful spot. Not a bad way to spend a
day!
The GDC today. Not much different!
When I was learning to drive there
were maybe two houses in the whole GDC area.By
time I was offroading out there (about 15 years later) there
were more houses going in but they were still so remote and
hard to find that owners would mark their turnoffs with flourescent
spray paint. Today there are hundreds of homes out there, but
there are still huge empty areas, too.
My sister bought land out there. The
road dwindles down to one lane and you think you must have gotten
lost by time you see the sign for her street.
There are some houses in her area - maybe
one house for every 4 or 5 blocks. But it's still a 20 minute
drive to the nearest store, gas station, or Chinese take-out,
and nobody delivers that far out. She's welcome to it
- I like to visit the wilderness, but I prefer to live a little
closer in to town!
