This one gets a birds-eye view of the marsh from
the top of a cypress tree.
Blackbirds are
not as exotic as some of the birds in the marsh, but they
make themselves noticed by their bold personalities.
Catching a ride on plants floating
in a fast current.
They will
scold you loudly if you come near their nests, and sometimes
they just seem curious as to what you are up to and will hang
around watching and joining in your conversation.
Blackbirds may
lack the long legs of wading birds, but they are quite clever
about catching their dinner. I've seen one climb up a reed
and make it slowly lean over the water until the bird was able
to see what was in the water and catch it.
This
Blackbird was sharing a sandbar with a pair of Black
Necked Stilts. He would wade out a bit, find a mussel,
and take it back onto the firm sand to break it open and eat
it. With the water so low the birds are easily finding lots
of mussels!
