The Little
Blue Heron is a wading bird about 30 inches
tall. They have long yellow-green legs that blend
into the roots and grasses when wading. Their long
toes enable them to walk over top of thick patches
of water grass. >>>
They
eat the usual assortment of bugs, minnows, lizards,
shrimp, frogs, crawdads, and snakes that feed so
many creatures in the marsh.
The
Little Blue hunts in mixed groups of birds or alone,
but not in a flock of his own kind.
Groups
of Little Blues nest in the tops of low trees to avoid
alligators and snakes.
This
Blue Heron is a more intense, iridescent shade of blue than is
normally seen - usually they are the more subdued blue and brown
colors.
